There are many different types of roleplaying sims within the SecondLife metaverse which will allow you a large variety of character types and scenarios.  They range from cyberpunk and post-apocalyptic to samurai, medieval, GOR, and futuristic sims, to name a few.

Before choosing a sim, think carefully about what you would like to be a part of then search and look around the different sims.  Some sims are heavily populated while others are very solitary and have little traffic. What this means to you is that a popular place will have plenty of different characters to check out, explore, and interact with while an empty sim would mean little or no interaction and limited play time.

My suggestion is to travel to the different sims, look around, and see if you like what you see.  Talk to players and get their feedback.  A little homework in the beginning will pay off in finding a place where you know you will fit in and enjoy your part in the sim.  This also will get you ready for developing your character.  You don’t want to buy knight’s armor and end up playing in a cyberpunk sim or get all the items you need to play a cyborg only to find out that you prefer to play in a Gor sim.
